Project Overview

Challenge

The objective was to create a visually engaging and authentic short documentary that would highlight the story of a Northern Rivers sugar cane farmer, while aligning with the voice and style of Jamie Zhu’s influential social media presence. The video needed to feel genuine, cinematic, and emotionally compelling to connect both with Jamie's audience and the Sydney-based client’s brand values. Capturing high-quality audio and visuals on a working farm also added logistical challenges.

Approach & Solution

As Jamie Zhu’s cameraman, I worked closely with him throughout the production day, managing both cinematography and audio. We shot in dynamic outdoor conditions, adapting quickly to the environment and natural light while maintaining a cinematic look. I used stabilized handheld and drone footage to capture the vastness of the fields, the personality of the farmer, and the interaction between Jamie and the location. A professional microphone setup ensured clean dialogue and ambient sounds to bring the story to life. My focus was to stay agile and discreet, letting moments unfold naturally while still delivering impactful visuals for post-production.

Results

The final video was published across Jamie Zhu’s social channels, receiving strong engagement and positive feedback. The Sydney-based client was thrilled with how their brand story was authentically communicated through the lens of rural Australia. The video successfully balanced influencer-led content with real storytelling, increasing brand visibility and emotional connection with their target audience.
